Constipation is a condition in which the bowel movement is slow, infrequent, or hard to pass through. The stool during constipation is often hard and dry. This condition causes the accumulation of toxins inside the intestines and in the body.
To help the digestion system function optimally and encourage normal stool movement, the body must remove waste and toxins effectively. When our body's waste removal systems do not work properly, the toxins accumulate in the liver, and inside our fatty and connective tissues.
Excess toxins in the body weaken the immune system and increase inflammation, oxidation, and aging processes.
The intestine is the most important detoxication system in the body. Its normal activity is the basis for the optimal functioning of the rest of our body systems. The conventional approach determines constipation when there is no stool for over two days. While Naturopathic medicine considers a condition as constipation when the frequency of stools is lower than once a day.
In general, when there are less than three bowel movements a week, it is most likely constipation. Often the hard dry stool is accompanied by strain and pain and can sometimes even create a rupture in the anus. Prolonged constipation can cause various health problems such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, headache, nausea, abdominal swelling and pain, lack of appetite, exhaustion, skin problems, and weakness of the immune system..
How Can Naturopathy Help?
In tackling constipation, naturopathy addresses the root causes to restore digestive function.
I help identify dietary and lifestyle factors contributing to sluggish digestion, and my treatment plans introduce fibre-rich foods, hydration strategies, and gentle herbal laxatives like psyllium husk.
Probiotics or enzymes may be added for gut health, while we explore abdominal massage and yoga poses to stimulate bowel function.
I support you with stress management and routine check-ins to make ongoing adjustments for improved regularity and relief.
Everyone’s body and triggers are unique, which is why a personalised approach is essential to finding lasting relief and balance. If you have questions or would like to explore a tailored plan, please get in touch or book an introductory call to discuss how I can help.
